Review of Large Language Model (LLM) Summarization Tools for Clinical Care and Operations - On Demand 2026
Amid surging interest in AI, can LLMs actually lighten clinical documentation while protecting patients? In this practitioner-led review, we compare vendor tools and homegrown models that generate chart summaries, discuss integration with EHR workflows, and evaluate safety, bias, and ROI. You will design simple pilots, critique outputs, and synthesize metrics to transform practice and apply reliable summarization at the bedside.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners should be able to:
  1. Describe how large language models function to generate summaries. Identify the stregnths of language models as well as key risks and limitations—including hallucination, omission bias, and context-length constraints.
  2. Our panelists will review our experience with various vendor summarization solutions at our respective institutions.
  3. Our panelists will review our experience with institution developed summarization solutions at our respective institutions.
  4. Attendees will learn how to transform an idea for an AI summarization tool into a practical implementation within clinical workflows. This will include instruction for how best to pragmatically study and measure the impact of your AI tool.
