On-call moments turn critical when hypercalcemia, thrombosis, or bowel obstruction strike. In this on-demand, case-based course, you will review pathophysiology and workup, describe key red flags, and apply evidence to select anticoagulation strategies tailored to cancer type and bleeding risk. You will also construct patient-centered plans for malignant bowel obstruction, guided by disease state, prognosis, patient preferences, and team input, strengthening hospitalist decisions and outcomes.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners should be able to:
  1. Describe the pathophysiology, workup, and treatment of hypercalcemia of malignancy.
  2. Select the most appropriate treatment plan for cancer-associated thrombosis taking into account cancer type, patient factors, and bleeding risk.
  3. Construct an individualized management plan for a patient with malignant bowel obstruction, incorporating assessments of the patient's disease state, prognosis, patient preferences, and interdisciplinary team involvement.
