Supporting Patients and Care Teams in Responding to and Reducing In-Hospital Substance Use

Inside the hospital, substance use often signals unmet pain, withdrawal, or stigma—not defiance. Through cases from two systems, you’ll identify drivers, recognize risk, and demonstrate non‑punitive, harm‑reduction responses. We describe evidence-based care, including medication for addiction treatment, and lead interprofessional planning with nurses to design and evaluate patient‑centered policies that reduce use, build trust, and improve outcomes.
