Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners should be able to:
  1. Identify and stratify perioperative cardiovascular risk by integrating patient-specific factors (known CVD, comorbidities, functional status, and risk modifiers) with the surgical risk, using validated tools and risk calculators where appropriate.
  2. Apply a stepwise, evidence-based evaluation algorithm to guide the selection of preoperative testing, including functional assessment, biomarkers (BNP, NT-proBNP, troponin), and judicious use of stress testing or imaging only when results may change management.
