Perioperative Cardiac Risk Assessment
Scrubbed in and facing a ticking clock—can your team triage cardiac risk with confidence? Translate the 2024 ACC/AHA stepwise algorithm into swift, guideline‑true moves as you identify red flags, assess functional capacity, quantify risk with RCRI/NSQIP, integrate modifiers and biomarkers, and reserve tests that change care. Walk away with a clear playbook that keeps cases safe, conversations honest, and schedules intact.

Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners should be able to:
  1. Tailor the perioperative evaluation based on the urgency of the procedure.
  2. Determine if there are acute cardiac conditions that may necessitate delaying non-emergent surgery.
  3. Estimate the combined clinical/surgical risk based on validated risk calculators.
  4. Adjust risk assessment considering the presence of any risk modifiers
  5. Determine functional status using metabolic equivalents or specific standardized questions.
  6. Evaluate the role of perioperative biomarkers for cardiac risk assessment.
  7. Assess appropriate use of cardiac stress testing and coronary revascularization.
