Learning Objectives
After completing this activity, learners should be able to
  • Recognize the indications for performing a skin and soft tissue ultrasound examination.
  • Describe the optimal machine settings, probe selection, and probe orientation and placement for performing skin and soft tissue ultrasound examinations.
  • Identify the structures seen in the evaluation of normal and abnormal skin and soft tissues.
  • Recognize normal anatomy and common pathology (cellulitis, abscess, lymphadenopathy, bony fracture).
  • Understand the limitations and pitfalls of skin and soft tissue ultrasound.
