Rapid Clinical Updates: End-of-Life Care in the Hospital
This session will focus on enhancing hospitalists’ delivery of compassionate, patient-centered medical care at the end of life. Key topics will include recognizing signs of imminent death, managing pain and symptoms, addressing emotional and spiritual needs, and effective communication with healthcare team members, patients, and families. We will review ethical decision-making, cultural sensitivity, and interprofessional collaboration. Using case studies, we will illustrate best practices in palliative care. Participants will learn practical skills to support dignified end of life experiences, with tools to navigate complex care decisions and improve overall quality of care for patients in their final moments.
