The hospitalist role in providing effective care for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) has never been more important. In this webinar, we will focus on the creation of OUD consult services. In addition to the structure of these service lines, we will explore the role that culture plays in OUD treatment. Participants will understand how to assess readiness for consult services within their own institutions, develop support and find partners, define metrics, and activate the model. We will also discuss various funding opportunities for these programs.

DEA Requirement - OUD and SUD Education

The US Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) recently announced updated rules for all registered clinicians. Starting June 27, 2023, clinicians applying or renewing their DEA registration will need to make a one-time attestation that they have attended at least eight hours of approved training. This will be due at the time of renewal, which will vary by clinician. As an accredited CME provider, the Society of Hospital Medicine has compiled a list of sessions that meet this requirement. How to be a Hospitalist Opioid Use Disorder Champion: Improving the Quality of Care for Patients

The hospitalist role in providing effective care for patients with opioid use disorder (OUD) has never been more important. In this webinar, part one of two on the topic, members of the SHM SUD Special Interest Group will discuss the current state of addiction medicine and the roles that hospitalists can take within their practice to overcome barriers and improve the quality of care for their patients with opioid use disorder. Topics will include how to screen patients, building protocols and pathways for treatment, QI projects, orders for discharge, and linkage to care. Additionally, speakers will discuss how to acquire data on the issue and how to start building capacity within the hospitalist team.

Rapid Clinical Updates: Hospitalist Management of Opioid Use Disorder

U.S. drug-related overdose deaths continue rising, with more than 100,000 individuals dying in the 12-month period ending in April 2021. Amidst this, hospitalists must be first-line responders in being able to assess and diagnose opioid use disorder, while offering evidence-based treatment. Participants will leave this session empowered to provide life-saving treatment for hospitalized patients with opioid use disorder.
