Care of the Hospitalized Incarcerated Patient
Inside the hospital, cuffs can conceal complex risks and rights. Through a vivid case, clinicians define incarceration, prison, and jail; review epidemiology and demographics; and understand policy—governmental and hospital-based—that shapes bedside decisions. We discuss admission, treatment, and discharge practices, and apply strategies to improve outcomes, equity, and interprofessional collaboration in carceral care.
