Outcomes assessed included stroke type, mortality, readmission, and Modified Rankin Scale (mRS) at discharge and follow-up.<br /><br />Baseline characteristics such as age, BMI, and systolic blood pressure were similar between groups. Preliminary results suggested that statin use was associated with better outcomes during the index admission and lower overall morbidity and mortality. Statin-naïve patients appeared to have a higher proportion of severe stroke and slightly worse mRS scores at discharge. Statin use was also associated with a lower incidence of hemorrhagic stroke, independent of systolic blood pressure. At 6 months, mortality was lower in the statin group than in the statin-naïve group.<br /><br />The authors conclude that statins may improve short-term outcomes even in stroke patients with LDL 70 mg/dL, but the findings are limited by sample size. They recommend longer follow-up to determine the long-term impact of statin therapy in this population.
