Pdf Summary
This study examined patient satisfaction with hospitalist services at a hospital in South Korea, where the hospitalist pilot program began in 2016. Because little had been known about how discharged patients perceive this system, the authors analyzed survey data from patients discharged between June 2020 and December 2023.

After discharge, patients completed a mobile questionnaire covering nurse services, physician services, medication and treatment processes, hospital environment, and protection of patient rights. The survey also asked for overall evaluation, willingness to recommend the hospital, and willingness to revisit.

The results showed that patient satisfaction was strongly related to most aspects of care, with significant associations found across nursing, physician communication, treatment processes, environment, and patient-rights measures. In regression analysis, several items had especially strong positive relationships with overall evaluation, recommendation intention, and willingness to revisit. Key factors included respectful and professional behavior, active listening, clear explanations of care, efforts to address patient needs, comfort and empathy, discharge instructions, cleanliness, safety, and fair treatment. Some items, such as privacy and certain explanations, showed negative or weaker associations, suggesting areas for improvement.

Overall, the survey found high satisfaction levels: 91.7% for overall evaluation and intention to recommend, 88.2% for willingness to revisit, and 91.8% between recommendation and revisit intention.

The study concludes that this is the first analysis of discharged patients’ satisfaction in a hospitalist-service hospital in South Korea. The findings can help identify strengths and areas needing improvement, supporting the development of a higher-quality hospitalist system.
