Patient Satisfaction for Pediatric Hospital at Home: What Do Patients and Caregivers Think? A First Look.

Pdf Summary
This study examined early caregiver perceptions of Pediatric Acute Hospital at Home (PAHaH), an emerging model in which children receive hospital-level care at home using the Current Health monitoring platform. The program launched in February 2025 from a tertiary care children’s hospital in a large southern metropolitan area.

The team developed a seven-point Likert survey to assess key themes: preference for home-based acute care, confidence in safety, ease of use of the platform, comfort communicating with the healthcare team, timeliness of responses, and overall satisfaction. The survey was given at discharge and IRB approval was obtained.

Results from 165 families showed very high satisfaction. Strongly agree/agree responses were reported for feeling safe with the platform (90.4%), ease of use (92.2%), confidence using it (79.5%), comfort communicating with the team (94.6%), timely responses from staff (94.0%), and overall satisfaction with the platform as a care delivery device (96.3%). NRC patient experience data also showed a higher likelihood-to-recommend score for the PAHaH team (93.8%) compared with the traditional inpatient pediatric hospital medicine team (81.4%).

Overall, families appeared to value the model and believed that acute care can be delivered safely at home in the right circumstances. The technology was seen as supportive of safety and communication rather than a barrier. However, the authors note an important limitation: selection bias may be present because early adopters may be more comfortable with new care models and risk. The findings provide a starting point for improving communication and platform features to further strengthen caregiver confidence and the home-hospital experience.
