Pregnant women with GDM were assigned to either a structured yoga intervention group or standard therapy (control) based on willingness and hospital protocol. A total of 59 women were included in the final analysis. The yoga group practiced a 30-minute daily yoga regimen for 12 weeks, with weekly follow-up and guidance. The protocol avoided strenuous, rapid, or abdominal-compressing movements. The main outcome was glycemic control, measured by fasting and postprandial blood glucose levels.<br /><br />Results showed that 47.5% of the participants practiced yoga. Women in the yoga group had better glycemic management and needed fewer medications than those who did not practice yoga. Specifically, fewer women in the yoga group required metformin or insulin compared with the non-yoga group. The authors concluded that yoga significantly helped achieve better glucose control with minimal medication use.<br /><br />Overall, the study suggests that yoga is a safe, low-impact, and effective supportive intervention for women with GDM, benefiting both mother and fetus.
