Back to course
Pdf Summary
This abstract describes a structured Hospital at Home (HaH) elective designed to prepare trainees for emerging models of care and support HaH program growth. From July 2024 to February 2025, 41 trainees participated, including internal medicine residents, geriatrics fellows, and palliative care fellows.

The elective combined hands-on experience with supplemental education, including a leadership-led lecture series and a web-based learning platform. Trainees completed anonymous pre- and post-rotation surveys, with a 59% response rate, and also took part in post-rotation feedback sessions.

The main findings were that participation in the HaH elective increased trainees’ familiarity with the HaH model, improved their comfort with core HaH skills, and raised their interest in future involvement with HaH care.

Overall, the authors conclude that a structured, practical HaH elective can effectively train house staff in this care model. They suggest that exposing more trainees to HaH may help build workforce readiness and support the sustainability and expansion of HaH services.
