Healthcare Providers Perception of Artificial Intelligence in Healthcare
Back to course
Pdf Summary
This survey study explored healthcare providers’ perceptions of artificial intelligence (AI) in medicine, focusing on their knowledge, attitudes, experience, and preparedness for AI integration. The authors note that while AI is increasingly being adopted in healthcare, little is known about clinicians’ readiness to use it effectively.

A survey was distributed through an internal email list and included multiple-choice, Likert-scale, and open-ended questions. A total of 195 responses were collected over two months in 2022–2023. Respondents came from diverse specialties, experience levels, and practice settings.

Overall, clinicians reported limited formal AI training and low self-reported understanding of AI. ChatGPT was the most commonly used AI tool outside of work, while clinical use of other AI systems was minimal. Despite these gaps, respondents generally recognized AI’s potential to improve efficiency, enhance outcomes, and reduce costs. However, they also expressed concerns about ethical issues, job displacement, and the future of the patient-physician relationship. Preparedness for broader AI adoption was rated low, although most participants remained optimistic about AI’s future role in healthcare.

The study concludes that there are significant knowledge and readiness gaps among clinicians regarding AI. The authors emphasize the need for clinician-focused AI education and training, along with greater clinician participation in the development and evaluation of AI systems. They also call for clear policies and ethical guidelines to support safe, effective, and informed AI adoption in healthcare.
