A standardized Hospital at Home educational curriculum was created for medical trainees at Mount Sinai Health System to integrate residents into the Hospital at Home model. The curriculum includes both virtual and in-person components and was successfully incorporated into the residency experience.<br /><br />The program has been well received by trainees, staff, and patients. Feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, and resident participation has brought fresh perspectives that have helped refine existing protocols and promote innovation within the Hospital at Home model. In addition to improving the educational experience, increased trainee awareness of Hospital at Home may help expand referrals for appropriate patients.<br /><br />The elective is growing: enrollment is expected to rise from 7 residents in the 2023–2024 academic year to 15 by the end of 2024–2025. Survey results and skills assessments are still being collected, but early anecdotal feedback is favorable.<br /><br />Next steps include analyzing pre- and post-elective survey data to guide curriculum improvements, expanding the elective to support multiple trainees at once, and eventually offering it to medical students. The team also plans to add more standardized educational sessions to deepen learners’ understanding of Hospital at Home and its relevance in modern healthcare.<br /><br />Overall, the project suggests that integrating trainees into Hospital at Home can enhance medical education while supporting growth of this care model.
