The curriculum covered key consult topics such as perioperative anticoagulation, risk assessment, acute mental status changes, diabetes and hyperglycemia, acute kidney injury, pain management, medication management, anemia, adrenal insufficiency, and perioperative infection and fever.<br /><br />Early results suggested the curriculum improved both education and consistency. In a survey, 15 of 20 residents responded; 75% reported greater confidence in perioperative management. Although only 53% completed at least one SHM module, the modules still appeared to strengthen foundational knowledge despite time constraints. Attendance at faculty chalk talks was 100%, and residents found them especially valuable for case-based learning and clinical reasoning. Rotation evaluations also improved, particularly in the balance between clinical education and service responsibilities. Faculty reported that the curriculum improved consistency across sites.<br /><br />Overall, the hybrid model appears to foster medical knowledge, emphasize clinical education, and standardize teaching across a busy consult rotation.
