A Case of Stage Ivb Endometrial Adenocarcinoma
A Case of Stage Ivb Endometrial Adenocarcinoma
Back to course
Pdf Summary
This case presentation highlights stage IVB endometrial adenocarcinoma, emphasizing the need for early recognition of this common gynecologic malignancy. Endometrial adenocarcinoma often presents with vague, nonspecific symptoms, which can delay diagnosis. While localized disease generally has a favorable prognosis, metastatic disease has a very poor outcome, with an estimated 5-year survival rate of 5.7%.

The reported patient presented with abdominal pain, and the differential diagnosis needed to extend beyond gastrointestinal causes. Diagnostic evaluation, including paracentesis, ultrasound, and endometrial biopsy, confirmed high-grade serous adenocarcinoma of the endometrium with peritoneal carcinomatosis, consistent with stage IVB disease.

The presentation stresses several key points: clinicians should consider endometrial cancer even when symptoms are atypical; staging is essential for guiding appropriate treatment; and delayed recognition can result in more aggressive chemotherapy, worsened prognosis, and reduced quality of life. Overall, the case underscores the importance of broadening the differential diagnosis in hospitalized patients with abdominal pain and recognizing that early diagnosis of endometrial adenocarcinoma is critical to improving outcomes.
